HISTORY / BACKGROUND:
This was the final "all A1 Component" Carbine Model in the Colt 600 Series, and the second carbine
configuration built with a 14.5" barrel. This Carbine was primarily used by US Special Operations, to
include the Army Rangers and Navy SEALs. The only differences between the Model 653 and the 654
was the presence of the Forward Assist on the Model 653, and the lack of a Forward Assist on the
Model 654.
