BLACK RIFLE I & II
Collector Grade Publications

Black Rifle I
ISBN: 0889351155
R Blake Stevens and Edward C Ezell
Enhanced Second Edition, 1992
416 pages, 441 illustrations
A chilling study of small arms development and procurement in the post-Ordnance US small arms
environment, wherein OSD 'whiz kids' arrogantly called the tune and shooting watermelons at a
picnic passed for engineering development. Beginning with the Black Rifle's forebear the
ArmaLite AR-10, through the small caliber/high velocity (SCHV) program at Aberdeen Proving
Ground, the .22 Gustafson carbine, the .22/NATO T48 and the Springfield and Winchester .224
rifles, this is an in-depth examination of the many controversies surrounding the 5.56mm M16
'package' - where it came from; what it is; what it is not, and why.

Black Rifle II
ISBN: 0889353484
Christopher R. Bartocci
Deluxe First Edition, 2004
408 pages, 626 illustrations
This new book is a sequel to the perennially popular 1987 Collector Grade title The Black
Rifle, which is now in its fourth printing.  This book chronicles all the new third- and
fourth-generation rifle and carbine models which have been introduced by Colt and
Diemaco since The Black Rifle was originally published, and describes and depicts the
myriad of enhanced sights and rails systems which help make the M16s of today the
most versatile, modular and effective combat weapons in the world. It also includes a
comprehensive survey of the Colt semi-automatic-only family of commercial and law
enforcement products, in .222 Remington, 5.56mm (.223 Remington), 9mm and 7.62
x39mm, and an in-depth Reference Compendium of all Colt military and civilian models
and components.

If you are serious about AR15’s/M16’s then you have got to have these 2 books!

COMPLETE AR15/M16 SOURCEBOOK

ISBN 0-87364-687-8
Duncan Long
8 1/2 x 11, photos, softcover, photos, illus., 336 pp.

This carefully researched, newly revised edition of Duncan Long's classic sourcebook
offers fresh insight into why the AR-15/M16 remains a favorite of soldiers, law
enforcement officials, civilian shooters and self-defense experts. Long takes another
look at the history of the "black rifle"; examines its many military and custom spinoffs as
well as grenade-launching systems, SAW versions and experimental weapons; and
even provides a detailed assessment of the OICW and other potential replacements
being tested by the U.S. military. Also highlighted are the very newest accessories for
the AR-15, with a hard look at which will enhance its capabilities - and which could get
the shooter killed. This is the most complete and up-to-date resource available on what
many consider to be the best rifle ever made.

FAIR WARNING ! - This one is loved because of it massive amounts of info and photos,
and hated because it has its share of bad info and errors.

JANE'S INFANTRY WEAPONS

This is an "Annual Yearbook" series, I believe that started in 1975, and is still running. I
have reviewed various copies from the 70's to the 90's.
